वर्चुअल एजुकेशन को बढ़ावा देने के मकसद से इन दिनों शैक्षणिक संस्थाएं स्टूडेंट्स को सीजी स्लेट के जरिए पढ़ा रही हैं। इन संस्थानों से मिली जानकारी के मुताबिक, बच्चों को सीजी स्लेट से खेल-खेल में शब्दों को सीखने की सुविधा मिलेगी। यह स्लेट एक डिवाइस है जो टैबलट की शक्ल में है। डिवाइस रूपी इस स्लेट की मदद से बच्चों को उनके पाठ्यक्रम की सभी सामग्रियों को एक खेल के रूप में पढ़ने में मदद मिलेगी। यह बच्चों में कठिन अभ्यासों को सीखने की तकनीक विकसित करने में मदद करेगी।
सीजी स्लेट को कॉन्वेजीनियस नामक कंपनी तैयार करती है, जो एनसीईआरटी के लिए शैक्षणिक सामग्री प्रदान करता है। यह स्लेट विभिन्न मॉड्यूल्स में प्रत्येक कक्षा और विषय के लिए मजेदार खेल बनाता है जो यह सुनिश्चित करता है कि सीखने की प्रक्रिया को चरण-दर-चरण पूरा किया जाए। कोई भी विद्यार्थी पिछले मॉड्यूल को पूरा किए बिना अगले इसके चरण में नहीं जा सकता है। पहले मॉड्यूल के पूरा होने पर ही अगला मॉड्यूल खुलेगा और उन्हें पढ़ने के लिए डिजिटल रूप में उपलब्ध होगा।

कॉन्वेजीनियस से मिली जानकारी के मुताबिक, सीजी स्लेट 3 से 12 साल की उम्र के बच्चों के लिए एक पूर्ण, किफायती और प्रीमियम शैक्षणिक टैबलट हैं। इस स्लेट के जरिए बच्चों को कक्षा से संबंधित प्रत्येक विषय के लिए खेल और अपने पाठ्यक्रम की सामग्रियों को बेहतर तरीके से पकड़ बनाने में मदद मिलती है। इसमें 500 से ज्यादा किताबों का संग्रह यानी घर है। ये किताबें इंटरैक्टिव हैं और काफी रोचक तरीके से एक से बढ़ कर एक कहानियां बच्चों को सुनाती हैं। इसका मकसद- बच्चों को इन कहानियों के माध्यम से बांधे रखना है। बच्चों को अर्थपूर्ण तरीके से जोड़ने के लिए प्रत्येक पुस्तक में शब्द खोजो और जिग्सॉ जैसे इंटरैक्टिव खेल भी शामिल किए गए हैं। बच्चों की दिलचस्पी को देखते हुए यह आमतौर पर उन्हें नीरस सिलेबस या अध्यायों को रोचक तरीके से सिखाती है। मुंबई के कई स्कूलों में इन दिनों सीजी स्लेट से पढ़ाई कराई जा रही है, ताकि बच्चे डिजिटलाइज्ड एजुकेशन की सुविधा से वंचित नहीं रहें।

A tablet dedicatedly for children? In most markets, that’s a tough one to find. In fact, that’s a product most parents don’t want to buy for their child, for myriad reasons. Children are anyway obsessed with smartphones belonging to adults, and parents don’t want to add to that. But what if there is a phone that is loaded with ‘edutainment’ (a pet phrase among Indian middle-class of all hues today) for your kid? Lenovo CG (ConveGenius) Slate, a handy tablet with a price tag of Rs 8,499, is designed to offer informative games to primary and pre-primary children.
CG Slate has a 1024×600 display and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT8127 processor. It has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded to 32GB using a microSD card. It has a 2MP primary camera and a 0.3-megapixel front camera. The CG slate runs on Android 5.0 and is backed by a 3,450mAh non-removable battery. It’s colourful and interestingly packed. It even has a mascot. The audio quality is average and so are the cameras.
ConveGenius is an educational technology firm. So, naturally, they should know what they’re doing. And it seems they know do. The CG Slate acts like a support system, to enhance what most kids already know, such as numbers, alphabets, basic logic, science and all that jazz. A microSD card embedded in the device carries the content, and you can add more via WiFi. The content is not very unique, though. That said, my five-year-old seemed to have liked most of it.
The device’s 1GB RAM is a letdown. Kids love seamless action and the device hangs often. The display is average, even though it’s justified given the price tag. The device allows enough room for parental control and tracks activities of the child and recommends fresh content.
To sum it up, despite a few hiccups, Lenovo CG Slate is an affordable edutainment tablet for your child.

Last year, industry body ASSOCHAM released a report which depicts the horrible state of education in India and said that the country will take 126 years to reach global education standards.
According to the report, India spends a mere 3.83 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) on education. Moreover, shortage of quality teachers is among the major challenges facing the education sector.
Experts say that way back in the last decade, when startups started emerging in India, new-age entrepreneurs observed the gap in the education sector and saw an extensive market potential in the education category. In the past eight to nine years, a large number of startups have been trying to address the existing challenges in education through technology as well as digging up business opportunity.
Going by media reports, edtech startups seem to hold their ground in the country, with rising popularity, fundraising activities, and increasing business opportunities.
Let’s discuss the obvious
A report released by RedSeer Consulting in 2016 stated that the market size of online supplemental education opportunity in India was expected to touch $2.5 billion in the same year and was poised to grow at 15 percent over the next three years.
According to the report, the addressable demographic of online supplemental education in the country was 20 million students studying in classes 6 to 12. These are the students who would be willing to go online to access supplemental education.

It further stated that a large number of students hail from tier 2 and tier 3 cities and are paying for offline tuition classes. Such students are an important market to target for players in the online supplemental education space.
“India has the largest K-12 education system in the world with over 260 million enrollments. Lack of access to good quality teachers, one-size-fits-all approach, and learning driven by fear of exams have been the main reasons why India consistently ranks low in all global education indexes,” explains Byju, CEO and Founder of Byju’s.
He confirms that while India has been big on traditional schooling and learning techniques, use of technology can truly bring in phenomenal changes in the education landscape.
Industry experts concur with the view and say that the market opportunity is huge and there is a lot of business potential in it. This has probably lured entrepreneurs to create solutions for this category. Besides, investors are also putting their faith in the edtech segment and have consolidated the general perception of immense potential in this market.
In 2014, around 44 players raised a total of $96 million in the education category. Interestingly, the entire funding wasn’t garnered by edtech startups alone, but some conventional education providers and publishers also raised investors’ money. In fact, the biggest investment was raised by a conventional publisher, S Chand, which closed a $27 million funding round led by IFC and Everstone Capital.
In 2016, investors’ interest in the edtech segment further increased, which led to funding of more players and investment of more money. Last year, around 58 education startups collectively raised investment of over $210 million. The top five were Byju’s ($125 million), EduPristine ($10 million), Avanti Learning ($5 million), CueMath ($40 million), and Simplilearn ($30 million).
