Five years ago, the world faced an unprecedented education crisis. The Covid-19 pandemic forced schools to shut down overnight, leaving millions of students struggling to keep up with their learning. In India, where access to quality education was already a challenge, the impact was even more severe. The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2022 revealed a stark reality—learning levels had dropped significantly, with foundational skills in literacy and numeracy taking a major hit. In response, the Education Department of Himachal Pradesh adopted a data-driven, state-wide remedial strategy aimed at addressing these gaps.
In 2024, ConveGenius led a systemic remedial initiative through the implementation of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) assessments and the deployment of academically rigorous teacher remedial handbooks. Leveraging cutting-edge AI and OCR technology, three rounds of large-scale assessments for over 200,000 students were conducted. The OCR assessments, processed with 98% accuracy within just 24 hours, replaced the traditional data-entry methods that previously took 4–6 weeks, significantly accelerating remedial interventions, freeing teachers from administrative burdens and equipping officials with instantaneous insights.

The OCR-driven assessments provide real-time performance data that is directly integrated into the government dashboards, enabling immediate, targeted interventions. Early results have shown impressive gains: between two OCR-driven census tests, Grade 3 students saw a 1 percentage-point boost in Maths, Hindi, and EVS; Grade 6 improved by 4 points across Maths, Hindi, and Science; and Grade 9 jumped 8 points across all core subjects. These results reflect remarkable improvements in conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills, within a short span of 4 weeks.

The early success of this state-wide remediation effort was reflected in the ASER 2024 report, where Grade 3 students’ reading levels doubled from 23% to 46%, and their basic subtraction skills rose by 49%, from 31.3% to 46.7%.

Seeing the early success of digital-first state-wide remediation, this year, ConveGenius will support Himachal Pradesh to implement a year-long continuous remediation model with –
- Learning Assessment Tests (LATs)—State-wide diagnostic assessment powered by OCR technology to assess current learning levels.
- Periodic Assessment Tests (PATs)—Continuous monitoring of student progress.
- Real-Time Analytics—Enabling early interventions and targeted academic remediation
- Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs)—Delivered directly to teachers through SwiftChat App.
Built for scale, this solution requires minimal hardware and runs on a mobile-first interface — with backend systems that integrate seamlessly into government dashboards at the Vidya Samiksha Kendra. Himachal Pradesh has proven that with the right tools and political will, public systems can operate with speed, intelligence, and scale.
At ConveGenius, we believe technology shouldn’t just enable education — it must reshape it. This deployment in Himachal Pradesh is more than a pilot—it’s a proof of scale. With implementation talks ongoing across multiple states, we’re now positioning this solution for national rollouts via large government contracts and CSR-driven partnerships in 2025. The time for incremental change is over—it’s time to scale what works for learning improvement at scale.
